WATERLOO–Hawkeye Community College is hosting several events on campus in conjunction with national Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
The college will host a “Let’s Taco-Bout It Power Luncheon” on Tuesday, September 11, beginning at 12:00pm in the Brock Student Center on Hawkeye’s Main Campus, 1501 E. Orange Road, Waterloo. The event will feature three speakers who will share their personal stories of how suicide impacted their lives. Activities continue on Wednesday, September 12, at 12:00pm with a walk of remembrance around the campus courtyard to view the annual “Don’t Let Them Walk Alone” shoe display. Each pair of shoes lining the sidewalk represents the story of someone who took their own life. Participants in the walk should meet on the courtyard in front of Tama Hall. Both events are co-hosted by Alive and Running, a local suicide prevention and awareness organization.
All activities are free and open to the public. Walk-ins are welcome at the luncheon, but RSVPs are appreciated to assist with planning. Visit selfserve.soadonefnet.com/alive for more information or to sign up.
